Web Development with Coda

I’ve been using Panic’s Coda for all of my web development for about 6 months now, and it’s fantastic. Check out the review from Shawn Blanc via TUAW.com to find out why Coda is such a great product.

Cool! I’ll have to check it out. I’ve always used TextMate and CSSEdit when I’m not doing .NET stuff in Visual Studio and have never really have many problems. I like the idea of an all in one solution though.

So I tried it out and I don’t think it is for me. Has potential but for me it just isn’t there yet. Perhaps 2.0…..
I find that the tools I currently use are more specific for what I need them to do. For example CSSEdit has a much better UI and “X-Ray” functionaility for editing CSS. TextMate can do whatever I want it to do. Plus I preview all the work I do in Firefox so I can check for errors, validation and debug my CSS with Firebug. So the firefox issue alone breaks the “all in one” aspect for me. I honestly can’t live without Firebug since finding it. Have you tried it yet?

Yeah, I’ve been using Firebug for a couple of years now. It’s awesome.
I mostly just use Coda for the ftp integration. It’s nice to modify a file, and click one button to upload the file to the server.
As far as CSS goes, I like CSSEdit a lot, but I still write CSS by hand. I think partly because CSSEdit uses webkit for previewing. I like to code for Firefox first, and then fix issues in IE and Safari afterward.

Did you happen to get CSSEdit in this year’s MacHeist?

I didn’t. I already own AppZapper, so CSSEdit was the only app I was even remotely interested in, and I don’t think I’d get much use out of it.
Although, I think the only app I use from last year’s MacHeist is TextMate.

Well, I already had CSSEdit before MacHesit, so if you do want a copy let me know.
I found this year’s MH to be a bit better. I only use 4 apps from last year’s heist (TM, iClip, Disco, and recently Delicious Library (now that I’ve started archiving all my DVDs, CDs and burnt movies)).
But so far from this heist I’ve been loving Speed Download and 1password a lot. I’ve also taken a liking to CoverSutra (new version that was just released), Taskpaper, and AppZapper. Plus I’m sure I’ll get some use out of Pixelmator, VectorDesigner and Snap Pro X (for making screencasts).
Wow, this is getting long….I’ll have to turn this into a blog post….lol.
Anyway, let me know about CSSEdit…

Yeah, sure. Send it my way. I could find a use for it occasionally.
I forgot about Disco last year. I use that whenever I burn anything. I was using Delicious Library, but my real beef with that is Amazon integration. I’d prefer to get info from IMDB, but I understand that they get money from Amazon every time a purchase is made as a result of their referral.
