House Hunting Again

I said we’d probably be moving to Fredericton come spring next year, and that means it’s time to start checking out the market. The last time we bought a house it took us 3 or 4 months to find something we liked. Granted, we were looking in a pretty specific area, and that’s why it took so long.

This time, however, we’re pretty open to where we live. The only requirement for us, as far as location goes, is that we don’t want to live anywhere near downtown or the university. We’d like about a half-acre of land that’s semi-private, and within 15 minutes of work. A garage would be really nice, but it’s not absolutely necessary if it has a work area to put my tools.

We’re willing to put some work into whatever we buy, but we don’t want to be stuck in reno-hell for months on end. I’d be willing to do the easy stuff myself. You know, painting and such. I’d even consider some flooring if it were necessary (we both dislike carpeting. It’s hard to keep clean). It’d need 3 bedrooms at least. One of those would become my office, so they don’t all need to be on the same floor, and 1 1/2 baths would be a nice touch.

Erin definately wants a mature property with lots of places for her to plant gardens, and I definately need space for a fire pit and a good size deck. Outdoor living is becoming more and more important to us these days, but I don’t want so much property that I spend every spare moment taking care of it.

So, if you know anybody who may be selling something like this in the spring, I’d definitely like to know. I certainly hope this will be a less painful ordeal than last time.
