Florida, Here I Come

I think it’s gonna be a good week. I’m heading to Florida in a couple of hours for some fun in the sun, and we just finalized the deal for our new house, so I’m looking forward to a zero-stress vacation.

Whoever though up the concept of vacation should have their own day…Vacation Day. We’ll stick it somewhere in June.

Later…

I’m Such A Geek

Blackberry SSH
I’m such a geek (hangs head in shame). I got excited when I found MidpSSH, a telnet/SSH client for mobile devices.

Now I have access to my servers via SSH from anywhere, as long as I can get a digital signal on my BlackBerry.

What will they think of next?

In the Boonies

Erin and I have finally found a house that we like. We’ve made an offer, and it’s been accepted. There’s just a few loose ends to tie up with our existing home before we firm up the deal on the new one.

I have to say that we’re REALLY excited about this place. It’s about 20 minutes from Fredericton, which I really like. I like having privacy, and that’s what we got. This place is in Upper Kingsclear on a 2 acre wooded lot overlooking Kelly Creek.

It’s a 2 story, 5 bedroom, 2400 sq ft cabin-style house built on the hillside. It puts the house in Oromocto that we’d been bidding on to shame. In fact, that place could fit inside this one!

It has hardwood floors throughout with the exception of some new burber carpet on the lower level family room and one or two of the bedrooms. There is an electric forced-air furnace, wood stove, air exchanger, and central vac, which are all pretty new, as well as new appliances.

We take possession in June, and we can’t wait! Driving 20 minutes to work every day will be a breeze compared to the 70 minute drive we make right now.

For those of you who are interested, email me and I’ll send you the MLS listing.

Nerepis River Ice

Last weekend, I took these photos of the ice on the Nerepis River (a section of the Saint John River) breaking up. I wish I hadn’t procrastinated on taking these because the view was even more spectacular than when these were taken.

Mac Missing in Action

Why is it things always take longer than they should? I brought my Mac in for servicing two weeks ago now. At the time, I was told it would be 2 or 3 days before I got it back. Well, that didn’t work out too well.

Next, they told me they had to order a new logic board, and it was going to take 2 or 3 days to get that in. So, I should have my Mac back after about a week in total. Fine. I can handle that. Well, that didn’t work out too well either.

I called the service center about this and I could hardly understand the guy with his accent and the poor call quality. But, what I did get from the conversation was that my part didn’t arrive when it should have. This means that I have live without my Mac through the long weekend.

This has been extremely frustrating for me because I have to use my Toshiba laptop all the time, and I’m not used to it any more…and it has Windows on it. Also, I have no way of syncing my iPod. I’m completely caught up on all the podcasts I have, and I’ve downloaded new music that I can’t listen to yet.

I guess all I can do is hope it’s ready on Tuesday when I go back to work.
