I had a nice long post all typed out, and I was just about to click save when Camino crashed on me, so read this instead…
Well, things are going better than expected at work. I thought I would just be manually testing software considering that I just started, but instead I’m working with the automation team. So instead of testing software, I write scripts that test software automatically.
I was just in the right place at the right time, I guess. Apparantly a lot of people want to be on the automation team because PQA hires quite a few computer science graduates from UNB, and they’ve all done development work at university. But, because the client didn’t want anybody moved off of manual testing right now, I kind of got thrown into it. Works for me…
Hopefully things continue to work out.
Being a recent Mac convert, one of the more frustrating things to deal with is not knowing which software to use. Apple ships all new Macs with some great bundled software, but not all of these applications are the best out there.
Well, yesterday was my first day at PQA. So far, it’s been typical first-day stuff…reading/signing forms, viewing training material, etc. I’m told it’ll be about a week before they fit me into the regular tasks.
It seems like a pretty good place to work. They have an active social commitee to make things fun. For example, they went white water rafting a couple weeks ago. I wish I’d been around for that. The only down side is that I’m still living in SJ, so I won’t be able to participate in too many events unless they happen on a weekend.
The commute isn’t as bad as I thought it would be either. The hour drive seems to go by fairly quickly. Erin will probably drive in the mornings, and I’ll drive home in the evenings which will make things easier too.
Anyway, more to come as I settle in.
